Congratulations to the girls!! They had an awesome season. We are so proud of each one of them! Keep practicing, it will start up all over again before you know it.
Thank you to the parents! Not only is there no way we could do this without you, but we wouldn't even try. You have sent us such great kids to work with. You should be proud of them!
We are still missing Kate's rifle. Everyone, please check your equipment bag! Let me know.
I have a couple gift bags in the van too.
Please email me any pictures you took this season.
I'll be sure to sent it along when I do. I will keep you posted next week with the results from Dayton.
Look for banquet information coming soon.
June 1 - Orland Days Parade (leaving from 148th & West Ave traveling south to 153rd then west to the Metra station) usually steps off at 1:00. We will have a couple practices prior.
August 2 - Taste of Orland Kid's Day 1:00-5:00 This is a big promo event for the activity and Independence - with a lot of great food to taste.
We will let you know about Spin Clinics as soon as possible.
Again, THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS. You may now return to your normal life, for the time being!~jeanie

I Want Candy!

The Cadets of Independence
We’re off to a great start and the season is only going to get ‘sweeter’! We have some information for you as we approach our competition season!

All Cadets need to use an equipment bag for rehearsals and competition.  This helps with organization and keeping our equipment clean and in one piece.  If you have one; start using it. If you don’t have one, please get one.  They can be sewn or purchased. Double check that you have all equipment before leaving the house! Sounds silly….but we were one flag short at Circuit last year!!!! Yikes! Please start using a bag ASAP.

All Cadets need to bring a bag to hold all of their belongings to every competition.  A backpack size bag would be appropriate.  The girls will be responsible for keeping all of their belongings in the bag and will carry it with their equipment bag.  For this reason, we don’t recommend anything larger than backpack size.  Be sure your name is on your backpack. Please bring one this weekend.

All Cadets need to put/keep the following items in their backpack:
1.    deodorant
2.    flip flops; we wear them to and from the performance
3.    safety pins
4.    hairbrush AND comb
5.    a package of bobbi pins
6.    a snack and small bottle of water
7.    a small makeup bag
8.    liquid foundation/base appropriate for the skin tone
9.    blush appropriate for the skin tone
10.    black liquid eye liner
Directors will take care of the remaining make up that we will be wearing.

We're still working out what we're doing with hair/hair piece.  We'll keep you posted.  What we know for sure is that everyone is to shower the night before a competition/performance and come with clean hair.  We're not sure if we're going with straight or curly hair so curlers may or may not be involved.  For this weekend; we're going with straight.

Nail polish and jewelry are ‘no-no’s in the color guard world.  Take your nail polish off fingers and toes at home.  Please leave jewelry at home as well.

Independence jacket. Vets; you have one; wear it. Rookies; when you get one; wear it. They’re not particularly warm however.  Wear a hoodie/sweatshirt too.

Bring a couple dollars for concessions if you like. Some shows have Color Guard merchandise.  Cadets can shop with their parents. We don’t recommend carrying too much money in their backpacks.

Competition Etiquette: we stay together at all times. We are respectful of all other units. We stay in uniform unless instructed to change.   Remember that when we are at competitions we represent the Independence Winter Guard Family. We need to be on our best behavior.  We will cheer for everyone; especially the Open guard :)

We will give you a hard copy of this information on Saturday and add to it if we think of anything else!  For this weekend, we won't worry about makeup.  The girls do need to bring items 1 through 6 however.
We're really looking forward to this season!!!
Lisa and Jeannie
