The Independence Winter Guard of Tinley Park, Illinois was started in the fall of 1997 and has successfully competed in the Midwest Color Guard Circuit and Winter Guard International.  The Independence Winter Guard is an independent organization and is designed for youth and young adults, ages 7-23, and focuses on such positive components as commitment, dedication, competition, athleticism, dance, drama and visual design.  The winter guard activity is an off-shoot of color guard programs normally associated with marching bands and drum and bugle corps.  We rehearse, travel and compete every weekend for over 6 months, starting in October.  The members must be able to attend rehearsals and be willing to stay overnight on camp weekends at other members’ homes as well as at competition venues.  Not all practices will be in the Tinley Park area, we will be rehearsing in the suburbs of Chicago, based on the availability of adequate rehearsal space.   ___________________________________________________________________________________
Welcome to
INDEPENDENCE WINTER GUARDS
2008-2009

We would like to welcome you to the family of Independence Winter Guards!!!  The following pages contain information for the 2009 season.  Please note that not all information is complete to date and changes to the rehearsal and competition schedule may occur.

The Cadets of Independence were started in the fall of 2006, as an additional program to the Independence organization.  They competed in their first contests in January of 2007.  The Cadet members are the younger brothers and sisters to our nationally competitive Open Class Winter Guard.  They compete locally in the Midwest Color Guard Circuit and travel with the Open Guard to our Midwest Championships in late March.  We highly encourage parent participation.   We will hold a parents meeting in November, during one of our rehearsals to explain a bit more about us and how we run our organization.  This meeting would be a great time to offer assistance in fundraising, sewing, cooking, or chaperoning one of our trips.

We rehearse, travel and compete every weekend for over 5 months, starting in November.  The members must be able to attend rehearsals and be willing to stay overnight on camp weekends at other members’ homes as well as at competition venues.  Not all practices will be in the Tinley/Orland Park area, we will be rehearsing in the suburbs of Chicago, based on the availability of adequate rehearsal space.

During its first 10 seasons, the Independence winter guards have excelled in many local and national competitions.  We are successful due to two items: our ability to be the best performers we can be and our willingness to commit ourselves 100% to the organization.  With this commitment, the members will be asked to raise funds, rehearse and compete through April 13, 2009.  Each member will be charged an assessed fee (dues), this amount for the 2009 season is $450.00 for the Cadet Guard  members and $900.00 for the Open Guard members.  $50.00 of the dues have already been applies in audition fees for the Open Guard members.  Attendance at rehearsals is always mandatory and school work is never an excuse to miss rehearsals.

The staff of both guards are extremely excited to get started on the season

Thank you for joining us in our 11th year of existence!
